Well, it's really not gossip.
But it's behind the scenes. Most trade show visitors don't get to go into the press room. But now that I write this blog, I have media cred and am allowed "behind the curtain." (I used to work in the trade show industry, so I've been in many a press room -- but as an organizer or exhibitor, not as an actual press person.)
One word -- WOW! Actually two words -- WOW and YUM!
The National Confectioners Association made life super-easy for anyone writing about ...

We never like to trash anyone at a show
People work hard and they do their best. But here are some of our peeves. We won't name names. But if you're reading this and you think we may be writing about you, re-consider your booth training!
PLEASE do not eat your lunch in the booth. Customers and press don't want to talk to people with their mouths full. And if you have booth breath, sneak a piece of gum, but spit it out before you give an interview.
DON'T speak ill of your management or l...

How sweet (and salty) it is!
Jerky, pop, and gluten-free are the magic words this year! And, of course, candy never goes out of style -- especially chocolate.
Did you know that 86% of all adults eat snacks? That's probably more than brush their teeth or have sex!
According to industry experts, the sweets and snacks business is a $42 billion industry (and growing). The average American spends $106 a year on snacks.
Crackers, nuts, seeds, and savory snacks are on the rise, as are yogur...

Shooting Blanks
At trade shows like ACA Tri-State you will meet countless people: potential business contacts, friends, some of the best people (and some not so fabulous). To stay in contact business cards are doled out like crazy...you will need to bring an extra suitcase with you just to take them home with you! After meeting all of these people sometimes they can blur and it can be difficult to remember everyone. What is the one sure fire way to not be remembered?
Having a business c...

New Takes on Old Traditions
What's always fascinating about the trade show floor is the interesting mix of "old camp standards" (like wood kits and rocketry) and new age activities and trends.
Be Gruvy...be Frocket-y...Be Clean
Being safe from the sun has never been more stylish with cool sun-safe duds from Gruvy Wear, including this matching skirt and top.
Campers can wear their hearts on their sleeves AND on their pockets. More than 100 variations on shirt pockets are the brain...

There's an App for That! (And these folks created it.)
Although technology is frowned upon at camp (so that kids can focus on fun, nature, and people!), innovative companies are creating ways to use technology to save time, money, and even lives.
Some of our faves at this year's show:
Michael Ambrose, M.D. is the Owner/Director of CampDoc.com, an electronic health record system that helps camp staff file and access camper information.
Touro University Nevada's MS in Camp Administrati...

Tales Around the Campfire: Write 2 Remember
are creating their scrapbooks and life stories. No more boring and cryptic "letters from camp," thanks to this fabulous new company. Story telling has long been part of summer camp tradition, but these two teachers have taken it to a whole new level with a fun program that builds literacy skills. Kids don't even realize they are learning to write as they

Going to "camp" as an adult is certainly fun. Especially when the American Camp Association is located in Atlantic City. The vibe at this show is different from any other conference/trade show. It's a true "community" and the people are warm and welcoming.
What's truly amazing is that the show is produced primarily by volunteers. It gives a whole new meaning to "let's put on a show!"
Technology, "pop-up activities," personalized and cool camp fashion, and new twists on traditional games ar...
